Fundraising Wrapup, Upcoming Call for Volunteers and Other News

Dear Supporters of the Center for a Stateless Society,

Thank you! You pulled through! Our first quarter 2010 fundraising goal was exceeded before the March 10th deadline and everybody has been paid for their hard work for the Center. Our operations are funded through the end of the month of March. It’s your support that enables what we do, and we aim to do some amazing things.

Starting in April, we’ll be changing to a monthly budget and fundraising drive instead of the quarterly approach we’ve been using. Part of this transition plan is to start using our own donation management software instead of ChipIn.com, although we may use ChipIn for a bit longer if our own software isn’t ready by early April. We’re also seeking a dedicated volunteer fundraising specialist that we hope will be able to become a paid staff member over the course of our growth over the next two years.

The search for a volunteer fundraising specialist is part of a broader search for a handful of key volunteers willing to take an entrepreneurial approach to building their own paid positions with C4SS. While the success of the fundraising specialist will be the most crucial, it’s our belief that the whole list of roles we’ll be recruiting for (as a collection) is what will enable that fundraiser to succeed and get us to a point in which several people are able make C4SS a full or part time job, promoting and advocating anarchism. That, in turn, becomes a point at which interesting things might begin to happen. We’ll be posting more specific information on this on our web site in coming days. In the mean time, if you’re interested in the fundraising specialist position, in particular, please contact admin@c4ss.org via email.

Right now, we’ve already started the first in a series of online courses in Anarchist Theory and Practice which we intend to develop and offer, to be called “Stateless U” (as opposed to, you know, State U). Take a look at the course introduction and first three lecture videos by instructor and C4SS Advisory Panel member Gary Chartier for the course “An Introduction to Anarchism”:

Finally, just a reminder that I’ll be speaking at the New Hampshire Liberty Forum 2010 on March 20th to promote C4SS and anarchism. I hope to meet several of you, our supporters there. If you can’t make it to Liberty Forum, I’ll also be speaking at the Libertopia conference in San Francisco this July. More info on Libertopia is available here:

Again, thank you for helping us reach our fundraising goal. Your support is what keeps us going.

Regards,

Brad Spangler,
Director, Center for a Stateless Society (C4SS)

Knapp: Bourgeois Libertarianism

C4SS News Analyst Thomas L. Knapp posted a bit to his personal blog called “A bit about bourgeois libertarianism“. Knapp seems to be drawing a Venn diagram and pointing to the area where the circles overlap for Carson’s “vulgar libertarianism” (i.e. dumbed down libertarianism that real libertarians look down on in the same way that Marxists look down on “vulgar Marxism”, from which the term is derived) and Mencken’s “booboisie“.

C4SS Fundraiser: Almost There! Can You Put Us Over the Top?

Dear Supporters of the Center for a Stateless Society,

We’ve almost met our goal for this quarter’s fundraising to keep C4SS going strong. We’re only $190 short, but we also have only a couple of days left. Molinari Institute President Roderick Long is going on a business trip and needs to be able to attend to the details of getting people paid right now, immediately, before the deadline — the deadline that already got pushed forward so as to let us finish paying people for this quarter.

Over 600 people on our Facebook group alone will receive this message. If only one out of every 10 of those 600-plus people gave $5 each, we’d make our goal and then plenty more.

Are you one of that 10%? Can you become one of them?

Please, donate using the ChipIn widget on any page of our web site.

Your ongoing support is what keeps us going. Please, donate today.
